Recovering With Pride is the substance abuse recovery program of Howard Brown Health Center. The program’s mission is to provide high quality, culturally sensitive, out patient treatment for alcohol and drug abuse. Our providers are licensed therapists, with specialized training and experience with addiction issues. Treatment is delivered in a safe and confidential setting where clients are encouraged to share experiences that have impacted their substance use.
Individual Outpatient Therapy is appropriate for clients who want to reduce or manage their substance use. Client receive one-to-one counseling with an experienced substance abuse therapist and may choose to focus on abstaining from all drug or alcohol use or to moderate their use.
Intensive Out patient Program (IOP) is appropriate for clients who need more than weekly individual therapy, but do not need inpatient therapy, or for clients who may have relapsed several times. IOP combines weekly one-on-one individual therapy with an experienced substance abuse therapist and intensive group therapy focused on early recovery skills, relapse prevention, and abstinence from drugs/alcohol.
Harm Reduction Group is a free weekly group that is appropriate for individuals who want to think about or change their relationship to drugs and alcohol. This group offers a nonjudgmental space for members to explore their options regarding drug and alcohol use, get support for making choices that align with their values, and learn tools to help them reach their goals. Members may choose to reduce risk, moderate their use, or abstain completely.
Alumni Group is a free weekly group that is open to any person who has completed group or individual treatment in Recovering With Pride or another substance abuse treatment program. Alumni Group focuses on ongoing issues that many people face after completing substance abuse treatment, including relapse prevention, social connectedness, maintaining changes, mental health, and others.
For members of the community who have decided to pursue substance abuse counseling, HBHC is licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Human Services to provide multiple levels of outpatient substance abuse care. Our program addresses both alcohol and drug abuse, including prescription medications, marijuana, GHB, ecstasy, heroin, ketamine, methamphetamine and cocaine.
For those who need detoxification, inpatient care or placement in recovery homes, our team has a network of LGBTQ-sensitive providers in the community who can provide these levels of care. We work closely with the staffs at the Haymarket Center and at the VALEO Program at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital, among others, to insure that clients receive the care they need.
